Flossing Teeth | Jeffrey J. Tibbs, DDS

At Jeffrey J. Tibbs DDS PA, we believe that quality general dentistry treatment and a strong at-home dental care routine are the best ways to prevent tooth decay and to care for your smile.

It is very important to come to our Winston-Salem, NC dental office every six months for a professional dental cleaning and exam. During this dental appointment, we examine your teeth for any potential oral health problems. We also provide a deep-cleaning using special dental instruments to remove plaque that may be hard for you to reach with a regular toothbrush.

Although these appointments are crucial to maintaining your dental health, so is having a strong at-home dental hygiene routine. Our office only sees you about twice every year, so you also need to keep up on your oral health care habits when you are away from our office.

If you want to improve your dental habits at home, try the following:

Floss at the Same Time Every Day

Flossing daily is one of the best things you can do for your teeth. It takes only a minute or two, and floss is incredibly inexpensive. Sadly, many patients report that they do not regularly floss. To help keep your flossing habits on track, floss at the exact same time every day. You can even set an alarm if you have trouble remembering!

Skip the Soda and Juice

While they may be delicious, soft drinks, energy drinks, and fruit juices wreak havoc on your enamel. The acids contained within these sugary beverages can permanently damage your teeth — and the more often you drink them, the more at-risk you are. For the health of your teeth, simply say “no” to these unhealthy options.

Drink Water with Meals

The health benefits of water are nearly limitless. You should be drinking water all throughout the day to stay hydrated and refreshed. It is especially important, however, to drink water during mealtime. Water helps wash away food particles that may otherwise stick to your teeth and cause plaque buildup. Drink plenty of it during and immediately after mealtime to maintain a healthy smile.
